In Chapter three of Mindframe, we start to follow the story of Claire Campana, a newly promoted captain in the World Navy. The World Vote pushed her up in rank, and she has just finished training in the Mojave space yard. It is all part of her preparation to become captain of the Eleanor Gray, once her father’s ship before he was killed by the Deviant ambush. But she first must try to reconcile things with her mother as much as she must reconcile her own sense of identity now that youth and family are gone and all that remains is duty and the Lariat.
